Drama,
Grade 9, Open
(ADA 1O)
This course
emphasizes the active exploration of dramatic forms and techniques, using
material from a wide range of authors, genres, and cultures. Students will
construct, discuss, perform, and analyse drama, and then reflect on the
experiences to develop an understanding of themselves, the art form, and the
world around them.
ADA 1O focuses on
learning presentation techniques to tell a story and on building one’s
self-confidence and getting rid of stage fright.
There are six major
units of study: Coming Together;
Basic Stagecraft; Learning About Acting; Scene Building; Choreography and Music;
and The Power of Your Voice.
Final percentage
grades are linked to the levels of achievement found on The

The report card
provides a record of the learning skills demonstrated by the student in every
course, in the following five categories: Works Independently, Teamwork,
Organization, Work Habits, and Initiative. The learning skills are evaluated
using a four-point scale (E–Excellent, G–Good, S–Satisfactory, N–Needs
Improvement). These learning skills
will be assessed and evaluated regularly.
The separate
evaluation and reporting of the learning skills in these five areas reflects
their critical role in students’ achievement of the curriculum expectations.
To the extent possible, the evaluation of learning skills, apart from any that
may be included as part of a curriculum expectation, will not be considered in
the determination of percentage grades.
